PRODUCTION NOTES
Mick had written this great bluesy chord progression and some lyrics about two days in paradise followed by five days in hell, 'you came, you saw and you conquered all before, you flew right back into the blue'. But, despite several years trying, including three hours sitting with a pen, paper and bottle of wine in the shadow of Mount Etna, he’d been unable to develop it into a complete song. Grahame loved the music and the concept. During a bike ride the following day, he wrote these lyrics about an encounter with a mystery woman, and the ensuing confusion about what actually happened and what he invented. He says 'I didn't get a lot of exercise that day, because I had to keep stopping to type the lyrics down on my phone!'
LYRICS
Two nights in paradise
With the girl of my dreams
A lifetime in purgatory
Replaying the best scenes
You came, you saw,
and you conquered me before,
You slipped right back into the blue.
(Into the Blue)
Should've known better
than to play around with fire
You're too hot to handle,
I'm burnt by desire.
I begged you for more
but you walked out through the door
and slipped right back into the blue.
(Into the Blue)
The laws of nature have been broken
And one and one, no longer equals two
I keep mixing different paints together
But the colours on my canvas are always blue.
Searching for evidence
Sniffing 'round for clues.
There's no lipstick on the glasses
No sign of your red shoes.
Should I pinch myself and wake up from this dream?
Or follow you back into the blue?
follow you back.....
into...
the blue...
Two nights in paradise
With the girl of my dreams
A lifetime in purgatory
Replaying the best scenes
You came, you saw,
and you conquered me before,
You slipped right back into the blue.
(Into the Blue)
Should've known better
than to play around with fire
You're too hot to handle,
I'm burnt by desire.
I begged you for more
but you walked out through the door
and slipped right back into the blue.
