PRODUCTION NOTES
Mick sent Grahame a demo of this melody, finger-picked on his Tanglewood acoustic guitar in open D tuning. Grahame loved the calming, positive vibe of the song. It reminded him of the tranquility when snow is gently falling, and that idea quickly led to these lyrics and a chorus about someone who's been through some tough times but ended up finding peace and calmness. He recorded the vocals when he had a heavy cold, and it seemed to fit the personality of the character in the song perfectly. In case you wondered, it's not autobiographical.
LYRICS
Snow is falling, high upon this mountain
Watch my footprints slowly fade away
There's no trace of where I came from
Where I've been I cannot say
My whole life has been a journey
'Cross the oceans to these fields
I've left behind the stormy waters
Found a place where wounds are healed
Chorus:
I've been spinning round a vicious circle
But I've come to rest at last
Now I'm back here right where I started
And I'm free from the shadows
And darkness of my past
I've escaped from all the madness
Left behind the battles of my past
I've come home and found a calmness
And this peace will surely last
Snow is falling on the distant mountains
Like it used to in my youth
Now I'm back here at the crossroads
But this time I'll choose a different route
Chorus
